Happy Birthday, Libra! September 23-October 22

Happy birthday, Libra!
The Sun moves into Libra right around September 23 and will be there until October 22. Of course, this changes a little from year to year, but not by much.
My very favorite poet, E.E. Cummings was a Libra born into Libra decan 3: October 14, 1894. The three decans of Libra are:
- Decan 1: September 23-October 3
- Decan 2: October 4-October 13
- Decan 3: October 14-22
We’ll get more into what those mean later on, either in an astrology lesson blog post or on a social media interactive. However, for those well versed in astrology, it is very little surprise the man that wrote:
If freckles were
lovely, and day was night,
And measles were nice and a lie warn’t a lie,
Life would be delight,—
But things couldn’t go right
For in such a sad plight
I wouldn’t be I.
If earth was heaven and now was hence,
And past was present, and false was true,
There might be some sense
But I’d be in suspense
For on such a pretense
You wouldn’t be you.
If fear was plucky, and globes were square,
And dirt was cleanly and tears were glee
Things would seem fair,—
Yet they’d all despair,
For if here was there
We wouldn’t be we.
And other such poems were born a Libra- or the rest of his chart, for that matter. You Libras have quite the eye for beauty: and tend to be very adept at expressing it.
Libra is symbolized by the scales- but, these represent the Scales of Justice that are held by the goddess Themis. You have probably seen her looking a bit more like this- as she is what inspired those images of the Lady Justice we see today. Back in the day, Libra was revered by the Romans as being the most righteous sign, and they tried to make sure that major events were conducted under it: it’s said that the Moon was in Libra when they founded Rome.
Even if you’re not a Libra, if you take a look at where Libra happens to be in your own natal chart, you’ll find that is the area of your life where you will either often be working hard at balancing: or you need to.
Solar Libra is...typically a social, very
fair minded person. They are usually intelligent and strive to maintain the
peace in everything they do. Unless you trip the big trigger: the thing that is
at the heart of Libra motivation is fairness.
Last time, I told you a little about the stereotypes involved with Virgos- and
well, one of the ironic ones with Libra is that they tend to be less than
direct- or, at worst: liars. This is both
true and untrue, actually: Libras are not lying to mess with your head, usually, if they are. They have such a strong
desire to keep the peace that white lies seem harmless to them- and that can
often result in a negative perception when they’re not direct with others. I’m
going to say this because I know when I
mentioned some negative Gemini traits, some got a little upset with me: but,
you have to understand- we all have these little attributes about us which are usually tempered or even strengthened by
other aspects in our chart. The stereotypical Libra
usually isn’t.
You see, Libras are fairly adept at being able to think
without it being in black and white terms: this is something that, perhaps,
myself- as a Capricorn may balk at quite a bit. But this is a good thing:
because this is more about harmony than it is about anything else- Libras want
to cooperate, and they want others to do
the same. Sometimes, they feel like that end may justify the means- just like
any other sign engaging in certain behaviors we might not dig.
They’re known for beauty- and balance, in all things and they may try to avoid the more negative things and strive to really just put themselves out there for
everyone around them. This can be a bit
problematic- because in trying to be so balanced and fair: they’re often not
that fair to themselves. For Libra, sometimes, the hardest lesson in life is
learning that they, themselves, deserve that love they give to everyone else so
easily.
People tend to love Libras- and they can be very likable souls. I know quite a few really awesome Libras, myself. The reason for
this is that desire for harmony: they tend to be the Devil’s Advocate which is
great for negotiating tough social situations. Deeply sensitive, they’re also
pretty good at being able to know what people are feeling, what they need, and
what they want without that person ever having to say a thing.
They are actually pretty wonderful
people- full of grace, charm, charisma, and...themselves,
at times. (I have a Libra ascendant. I... uh,
may embody the “full of themselves” more so than the grace.) They have a deeply
rooted sense of what’s right and wrong- which does tend to endear them to
others. The problem being: you have too
much of an open mind, and your brain
falls right out. It can be remarkably difficult to make a solid decision when
you see all the sides of any given situation.
When the Sun moves into Libra- for the rest of us, it’s important to remember that Libra rules relationships. We need to better understand that the way we engage with others- is a mirror of how we often feel about ourselves. We can learn to better negotiate, meet people in the middle and balance things. It can be a little more difficult to make the choices we need to when the Sun is in Libra because we may feel a lot more inclined to see all the sides, to explore all the options- and well, a little less inclined towards pushing things. Balancing those things, avoiding being passive aggressive or self-centered (and remembering that martyring ourselves is also self-centered) is key.
